How To Buy Hardwood Flooring

First think about what type of wood will fit with your home and your lifestyle. Some examples;

Tastes vary but Rustic, Wide Plank or a Textured Surfaces work well with both Mountain Homes and Informal City Lofts.

Clear Strip and Planking works well with the clean lines of Modern Architecture.

Consider whether site sanded and finished or Prefinished wood flooring is better for you.

If your budget requires; consider lower price point strip flooring made in narrower widths.

Call us at 303-674-6966 or send us an Email to set up an appointment. We are happy to walk you through every step of the process and answer any questions you may have. Then set up an appointment to have us come to your home to prepare an estimate free of charge.

One of the best starting points to begin buying a hardwood floor is to stop by our showroom in Evergreen. We have a large variety of samples. If we do not have it in stock, we can custom make a sample specifically for you. You may also contact us by phone at 303-674-6966 or by Email. We would be happy to walk you through every step of the process and answer any questions you may have.

The first step is usually deciding on a species of wood that will fit your home and your lifestyle. Grain patterns, texture and coloring are among the many options that might affect your choice. You will want to consider other things about the material, such as durability, grade and width.

Different species of wood used for hardwood flooring are rated by the Janka Hardness Scale (attach chart). This will give you an idea how normal foot traffic and wear will affect your hardwood floor.

The grading of flooring allows you to finds several different appearances within the same type of wood flooring. A Select Grade floor tends to be very uniform in color, grain and texture. Each board is hand selected for its matching characteristics. A #1 Grade floor has a little bit more variety in color and grain, but knots and wormholes are few. A #2 Grade floor is quite a bit more colorful and tends to have a lot of small, tight knots (which are usually filled with wood filler). A Rustic floor is chosen for its large knots (usually left open or partially filled), random coloring and unique board markings. The widths of the boards are another option that can change the appearance of a hardwood floor. A Strip floor usually comes in widths of 2 1/4” to 4” in 1’ to 8’ lengths. A Plank floor contains widths of over 4” and is usually a Long Length material with a 10’ average length board.

The next step, if you are looking to have us install, sand and finish your hardwood floor, will be to set up an appointment to have us come out to your home and do an estimate. The estimate is free and is important to providing accurate pricing for the job.
